Turku Museum Centre
Gathering the local history of Turku – “Prikka” online service preserves memories for Museum Center's Use
Where did you get that rebellious haircut behind your parents backs? Where did you kiss your first kiss? Where did you buy candies as a child with your weekly allowance?
The Prikka website of the Turku City Museum Center aims to archive the memories of Turku residents online, making them accessible to anyone. The development and maintenance of the application are managed by Weasel Software.
“The writings and photos uploaded to the site become part of the Museum Center’s collection and in that way help both researchers and ordinary citizens understand our recent local history. We have built the site to be user-friendly and clear so that as many people as possible can use it to record their experiences,” says project manager Rauli Heikkinen from Weasel Software.
Winner through tendering
Weasel Software was selected as the supplier for the project in an internal mini-tender of the Turku City Application Development framework agreement, where Weasel Software was chosen as the most economically advantageous operator. The project was approved in December 2022, development work took place throughout the year 2023, and the application was made available online at the beginning of 2024.
In the Prikka project, the specifications were first refined, and then the design and user interface prototype of the application were planned. The project itself consisted of a fixed-price project, followed by continued development with the Museum Center using agile methods.
“Working with Weasel has been smooth, even though the process has been quite lengthy. Desired changes have been implemented quickly, and they have also provided good ideas and suggestions for improving the site’s functionalities,” says Turku Museum Center researcher Milla-Lotta Kemiläinen.
Listening to the client’s wishes, Weasel Software has provided the Museum Center with an application following the “turnkey principle”. Thus, Weasel Software has been responsible for various aspects of the whole: project planning, management, usability and user interface design, application implementation, platform services, and maintenance. Platform services are provided using cloud services. The Museum Center participated in advancing the project in weekly meetings, ensuring that customer needs were continuously met.
“The Museum Center benefits from this comprehensive service, as clear responsibilities and team agility bring clear cost savings to the bottom line,” Heikkinen points out.
