SmartPort is now WPS – Weasel Port Solutions
Weasel Software has renewed the name of its port operating solution. The system previously known as SmartPort has been operating under the name Weasel Port Solutions (WPS) since the beginning of 2026. The new name reflects the solution’s development into an operational software platform for ports’ day-to-day activities and strengthens its position as part of Weasel Software’s port business.
Weasel Port Solutions (WPS) is a smart port software solution designed for port operations. It supports the management of passenger, vehicle and cargo flows, as well as the daily operational control of ports. WPS brings together a port’s critical processes and provides operations personnel with a real-time view of the current situation and any deviations.
The solution consists of six modules, which can be implemented gradually according to the port’s needs:
- Passenger Terminals – ticket validation, security and boarding gates, and staff access control
- PAX Cars – management of passenger car flows: pre-arrival operations, validations, lane management, self-service and loading confirmations
- Cargo Operations – management of cargo flows: advance information, gate and check-in functions, yard area management and loading preparation
- Gate Operating System (GOS) – identification, verification, physical gate control, event data collection and integrations
- Infosystem (Displays & CMS) – indoor and outdoor information displays and centralized content management
- Dashboard – a real-time operational overview, historical data and statistics, including departures, check-in status and deviations
“Our customers do not need more individual tools, but one manageable whole. WPS brings passenger, vehicle and cargo flows into the same situational view and makes operations controllable – and because the solution is modular, it can be implemented gradually according to the port’s needs,” says Sales Director Mike Karjagin.
Why is the name changing?
The name change aims to bring clarity, distinctiveness and memorability to the market. Weasel Port Solutions also reflects the fact that the solution has grown from a single system into a broader port operations solution, which is actively developed according to customers’ changing needs.
SmartPort was transferred to Weasel Software in 2022, when the company acquired the business from Fortum’s Software Development unit. Since then, the product has developed as part of Weasel Software’s port solutions, and the name change brings the solution more clearly under the Weasel Port Solutions (WPS) umbrella.
“The development of SmartPort at Weasel Software has progressed systematically towards a broader software platform for port operations. The name change to Weasel Port Solutions clarifies the offering and strengthens our position as a long-term software partner for ports,” says CEO Juha Laurila.
The name change does not affect existing customer relationships, agreements or the use of the system. WPS continues as a solution developed on the basis of SmartPort, with Weasel Software responsible for its development, maintenance and customer support.
