Port of Helsinki digitalises passenger flows with our help: Gates stay open and schedules stay on track
Nearly 10 million passengers pass through the Port of Helsinki every year. Each of them hopes for one simple thing before boarding: that the gate opens on time and the journey continues without unnecessary waiting.
Smooth passenger traffic is made possible by SmartPort, a software platform developed by Weasel Software. It’s a digital gate system that connects passenger processes, ferry operators, and port operations into one seamless flow.
SmartPort is already in operation at ten passenger terminals in Finland, Åland, and Sweden – handling nearly 20 million travellers every year. One of our largest customers is the Port of Helsinki, where the cooperation has been highly appreciated:
“Working with Weasel Software has been seamless. Their reliability, proactive development work, and ability to solve challenges are top-notch. When they make a promise, they deliver,” says Jussi Malm, Development Manager at Port of Helsinki.
What does SmartPort actually do?
When a passenger arrives at the terminal, they scan a QR code on their ticket at the entry gate. The scanned data is instantly transferred to the ferry operator’s system and updated in real time in the vessel’s passenger list — all within seconds, automatically.
The result is a system that:
- Reduces manual work
- Keeps data synchronised between ports and ferry operators
- Makes travelling effortless
But perhaps the most important feature of SmartPort is its reliability.
When neither passengers nor port staff have to think about whether the system is working, it means it’s doing exactly what it should — quietly, efficiently, and constantly collecting data. It ensures that countless journeys start on time and run smoothly.
